MEAN WELL BIC-5K Series - 5KW Bidirectional Power Supply with Energy Recycle
MEAN WELL Australia has introduced the BIC-5K series, a fully digital 5 kW bidirectional power supply. It handles both AC-to-DC and DC-to-AC conversion with energy recovery, making it a great fit for energy-saving and carbon-reduction projects.

The BIC-5K series gives engineers a reliable, compact, and smart way to handle two-way energy conversion. It can run at 5 kW in both directions and switches between modes in just 1 ms.

- Power and Voltage: Delivers 5000W output with DC voltage choices of 24V, 48V, 96V, or 380V. The AC input range is 180 to 305 Vac.
- High Efficiency: Runs at up to 93.5% efficiency and keeps Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) below 3% in both modes.
- Scalability: Active current sharing lets you increase power as needed. You can connect up to 6 units in parallel for a total of 30 kW, making it suitable for bigger projects.
- Intelligent Control: Works with both CANBus and MODBus-RTU (RS-485) protocols, giving you flexible options for control, setup, and monitoring.
- Durability and Protection: Built to work well in tough environments, with a temperature range from -30°C to +70°C. It has a conformal coating and full safety features, such as anti-islanding, AC fail, DC overvoltage, overload, overcurrent, and overtemperature protection.
- Certifications: The series is certified globally, including ITE 62368-1, Energy Converter 62477-1, and AC Grid System 50549-1.
The BIC-5K helps prevent energy waste by safely absorbing and recycling energy back to the AC grid. As an AC-to-DC converter, it works as a regular power supply or battery charger. In DC-to-AC mode, it converts DC energy from batteries or loads into AC energy for the grid.
