MEAN WELL Introduces the New N78xx-2 Series: 2A Mini DC-DC Switching Regulator

The MEAN WELL N78xx-2 series is a 2A miniaturised, high efficiency DC-DC switching regulator. 

What is a DC-DC Switching Regulator?

A DC-DC switching regulator takes an input DC voltage and produces a different, regulated DC output voltage. It does this by rapidly switching the input voltage on and off and using energy storage elements like inductors and capacitors to smooth the output.

Features of the MEAN WELL N78xx-2 Series

The N78xx-2 series is fully pin-compatible with the traditional TO-220 packaged 78xx and 79xx linear voltage regulators, allowing for replacement in existing designs. It also features high efficiency of up to 96%, and a working temperature range of -40~+85℃, requiring no external heat sink. This feature, combined with its compact size, makes it an ideal choice for anyone looking to upgrade their systems without major redesigns. Compared to the 78xx and 79xx series, the N78xx-2 series offers significant advantages, including offering 3 different types of housing. The plastic insulation housing addresses insufficient insulation distance in circuit layout. With a wide input range of up to 32V, the N78xx-2 series comes with a dual-pressure unit where the positive voltage can also be used for negative pressure output. 

MEAN WELL has ensured that the N78xx-2 series meets stringent industry standards. It complies with BS EN/EN55032 radiated Class B emissions without requiring additional components. The switching regulator also incorporates multiple protection features, including safeguards against short circuits, overload, and overtemperature conditions.
